for eReader companies.

I hate to break it to you (pardon the pun) but no
companies offer
ereader repairs or replacement screens
for their devices.

The price wars will be left to Amazon and B&N, and smaller
eReader companies (Onyx might eventually be a good example of this) will start building higher quality devices meant
for specific markets, and
for people who still want a purpose - built reading device.
A lot of people have been unhappy with Amazon
for removing text - to - speech from Kindle
ereaders, so it's good to see the
company still embracing TTS technology and working to add it to their other products.
One of the distinctive aspects of the
eReader Touch Edition is that it incorporates support
for Kobo's Reading Life, which the
company introduced earlier this year in its apps
for mobile devices.
From syncing your books across devices to purchasing from a variety of retail partners, it's a pretty compelling proposition
for relatively uninformed book lovers who've not yet made the switch to ebooks and have presumably not heard of a little
company called Amazon and their newfangled Kindle

for color, so I really don't see myself getting a Kindle or

companies make back through ebook sales.
There are a few threats — multi-purpose devices becoming much better
for reading, multi-purpose devices becoming much cheaper, Publishers choking off the supply of ebooks, the major
eReader companies collapsing.
It does, however, promise to provide a few things we haven't seen before in
eReaders — lots of individual developers and
companies of all sizes offering new features to users, attempts to expand the usefulness of the Kindle without taking away too much from the focus on reading, use of the wireless
for features other than book downloads and basic browsing, the ability to cater to the needs of specific demographics, personalization and customization.
If the current status quo (Kindle in the lead and Nook and Sony Reader eating up most of the rest of the market) continues then we will see rival
eReader companies try to use an exchange system («ebook ownership
for life») to beat locked - in formats («ebook license
for one device / platform»).
Rather interestingly, what might dampen netbook
companies» appetites
for eReaders is the mercurial growth of netbooks.
It also weeds out the smaller
eReader companies and forces
eReader companies to improve their products and the value
for money they offer.
Kobo is a
company that joined a few years late and that has perhaps 1 % market share — It's absurd
for Kobo to be claiming credit
for what's going on with
eReaders and eBooks.
The
eReader for iPad application will compete with Barnes & Noble's own Nook e-reader, but the
company sees a greater advantage in selling books themselves — both the printed variety and e-books — than focusing on sales of a single e-reader.
Hanvon, a
company primarily focused on handwriting recognition and OCR software, known in the
eReader marketplace

When Kobo's parent
company, Rakuten, purchased OverDrive last year it seemed like an obvious move
for them to add OverDrive support directly to Kobo
ereaders like Sony used to have on their ebook readers before they quit making them.
This
company has a good reputation
for decent hardware and software, but I have only encountered their Android
ereaders.
The B&N
eReader for iPad will follow the
company's pattern of making its online e-book store accessible to users of a variety of computing and mobile devices, including PCs, Macs, iPhones and BlackBerries.
Guren said Microsoft does not disclose e-book sales figures
