For the potential moderator effects between negative affectivity and
effortful control on ODD problems, we predicted that high levels of negative emotionality and low levels of
effortful control would be linked to ODD - related problems.
Development of
effortful control in early childhood is critical
for the reduction of aggressive behaviours and impulses.
KITS was designed to increase children's attention and
effortful control in classroom settings, to promote preliteracy skills, and to provide caregivers with skills
for facilitating children's successful transition to kindergarten.

for all subsequent analyses.

for Rules of Conduct.
The results suggest clearly diverging temperament profiles
for these groups of children, with High - Intensity Pleasure and Shyness (representing the broad dimension of Surgency) steering the conditional probability of internalizing and externalizing problems (direction markers), Frustration mainly being related to maladaptation in general (severity marker), and Fear and
Effortful Control being associated with both the severity and the direction of internalizing and externalizing problems, respectively.
While
Effortful Control and Negative Affectivity were strongly associated with all symptom measures, Surgency and Affiliation were only weakly associated with symptoms (associations were significant
for the former but not the latter).
Efforts to enhance social skills may prove particularly important
for children with low or medium
effortful control.
