I've been searching
for a eInk reader that can handle Google Books and Amazon Kindle books for a very long time.
Not exact matches
For instance, while you could say that coolreader works well with
eink, it doesn't compare with Moon +
Reader when it comes to completely respecting the styling of the ePub file.
I am looking forward
for a foldable
eink reader that can fit into my pocket.

As
for eInk not being backlit, most
eInk Readers have a front light so the screen can be seen in the dark or in low light.
It looks like it should be better
for reading than iPad (with anti-reflection coated screen) and better
for web browsing than dedicated
eInk readers like Kindle.
There are some good reasons
for Amazon to stay focused on the Kindle — The Kindle Tablet can't hit the $ 100 or even the $ 200 mark, hardcore
readers want dedicated eReaders, LCD can't touch
eInk when it comes to battery life or readability, 80 % of book sales are to 20 % of the people buying books and those people want dedicated reading devices.
Wonder where the Sony
Reader Touch Edition's screen fits in — Haven't we had that

For others (and I'm in this category), reading on a dedicated
eink reader is a much better reading experience.
Unfortunately, the
reader isn't slated
for release until 2010, but it is still possible to try out the Barnes & Noble eBook store without a dedicated
eInk reader.
I understand the need
for pages on paper or
eInk, but I always wonder why
readers on the iPhone or the Web want me to turn pages instead of scrolling.
So, while some
readers might get a very good Kindle 3
eInk Pearl screen and feel Kindle 3 is better,
for most
readers the slightly faster page turns and the far less frequent screen flashes will make the Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch screen seem a bit better.
The Pearl

That leaves B&N out as an option

I have been waiting patiently
for Sony to get caught up with the rest of the universe, so I didn't buy any of the other frontlight
eink readers because IMO none of them can compete with Sony's advanced software (especially with pdf files).

The power consumption of an
eInk display is so small you can go
for days without having recharge your
eInk reader.
All that said, an
eInk reader wasn't an option, regardless of price, battery life, or superior value
for «just reading.»
What they were thinking in part is explained everywhere
for years and in this review: reading a book on a tablet LCD display ranges from hard to impossible (in bight, such as outside, light)-- whereas reading an ebook
reader eInk display is easy even in bright light.
I might be in the minority but I see myself carrying both an
eInk reader and a tablet
for the forseeable future.
For most purposes, the
eInk readers are a lot easier to read than LCD displays.
This is really exciting to me because I think it presents a clear way forward
for the color
eink screens and I would expect that the next generation of
eink readers would all incorporate this type of screen including the Kindle and the nook.
Kindle DX will most likely get software version 2.3 that is now standard
for the entire line - up of Amazon
eInk readers.
Could this investment show promise
for advancing the cause of
eInk reader technology?
Coupled with reflection reduction technology, it's actually remarkably easy to read text on this tablet in all conditions, so you won't be crying out
for the
eInk display found on dedicated e-book
readers.
