I can't make any solid recommendations for flour substitutions since I haven't tried any others in this recipe, but others have reported success swapping soy flour or all - purpose flour for chickpea flour in other recipes.

I didn't have arrowroot flour, so I used almond flour, and I couldn't find any dates for some reason, so I used raw honey, and I don't like nuts in brownies, so I didn't use pecans, and I didn't have any hazelnut butter and didn't want to buy any because it's expensive, so I didn't frost them, but these are fantastic even with the substitutions and without the frosting, wow.

coconut flour can not be subbed for almond flour, i don't always know if a flax egg will work for egg, etc. i work very hard to create the delicious recipes to share with you and too many substitutions makes the recipe different than what i set out for it.

«whole wheat flour» — I would assume that means whole wheat pastry flour but want to check it out before I make what I was absolutely craving for this morning but it's too late since I ended out with a piece of really good rye bread and lots of butter with a little sprinkle of sugar --(not even a substitution but...).
You can sub white rice flour for brown rice flour but almond flour substitutions get a little trickier (often sorghum flour works 1:1 but not always).
I live in England and we don't use pumpkins very much at all, basically they're in the shops for a couple of weeks around Halloween and that's it, and it's pretty much impossible to buy canned pumpkin puree here, so I boiled the pumpkin and then liquidised it to make the puree, and I had to make a few other substitutions for things I didn't have - I used creme fraiche instead of yogurt, dark brown sugar instead of light, and cake flour doesn't exist here so I just used plain white flour.
