The German Shepherd derives from dogs
used for herding sheep and other animals in the 19th century.
Originally bred to be a herding dog, some people continue to use these
dogs for herding purposes.
While they are small today, originally these dogs were much larger and were used
for herding sheep.
Dogs, the amazing species that they are, have been
developed for herding livestock, guarding our properties and working alongside us.
Like a lot of dogs that were originally used
for herding livestock, German Shepherds are alert, active, and athletic.
Even when the
need for herding dogs started to decline, these dogs continued to be popular working dogs, working with the police and military.
But if you live in a city or the suburbs, you probably don't have much need
for herding skills.
In the early days, that usually meant identifying dogs who were well -
suited for herding, hunting and other work.
Remember, although the above activities are
great for herding breeds, really any kind of exercise, or mental stimulation is good for your dog.
This mix is the product of two breeds known not only for working but
also for herding.
This hard working dog's speed, agility and sense of smell once made him
ideal for herding.
They are traditionally working dogs and bred
for herding animals, and this genetic aptitude makes the breed very suitable for many service assistance tasks.
This is also great for people who don't need to constantly maintain
feed for their herd but just needs an occasional boost.
The usual
age for herd training of a dog is 10 to 12 months, though it depends on the individual dog.
But, if producers aren't adding parasite control to their fall herd health protocol, they may not be getting the most
bang for their herd health buck.
More often than not we also have dogs in our care who make excellent sport
prospects for herding or agility.
They are not only most
excellent for herding and for livestock, they could be also utilizing as therapy dogs and medical alerts dog.

puppy for herding, I would be happy to work with them.
These dogs are an old Spanish breed that has been used

for herding excel at that, so does the French bulldog at filling his role as a companion dog.

It was recognized that the breed had the necessary skills
