international cinema.

cinema of the year, from Cannes hits anticipated on American shores (Todd Haynes» «Carol,» the Holocaust drama «Son of Saul») to the latest from
international heavyweights like Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao - hsien («The Assassin»).
The selection of films incorporates some of the most significant (and most discussed) examples of
international «art
cinema» and off - Hollywood cult
cinema from recent years, the bulk of them released between 2000 and 2006; examples include In the Mood
for Love (Wong Kar - wai, 2000), Memento (Christopher Nolan, 2000), Mulholland Drive (David Lynch, 2001), Irreversible (Gaspar Noé, 2002), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michel Gondry, 2004), and Caché (Michael Haneke, 2005).
As well as gaining access to the very best and brightest of contemporary
international cinema, part of the joy of the festival experience is discovering forgotten gems, overlooked offerings, and films that have inexplicably sat on the shelf
for much too long.
