If it's not possible
for you to have an in - home
visit from a
lactation consultant, many hospitals and other organizations offer support groups and outpatient clinics.
You can easily book home
visits with
lactation consultants, chat with other moms
for support, and get videos and instructions.
I
visited with my
lactation consultant regularly and we talked about weight gain and pumping strategies, but I never once brought up that I hated myself and my child
for a few moments every time we sat down to breastfeed.
So that was a great
visit it felt a little awkward at first because that
lactation consultation its designed
for little babies, its designed
for the new kids and here he was 10 months old and crawling but we still needed help and if I hadn't gone in it probably would've been the end of our nursing, I had to use ointments I had a lot like, it was really painful and uncomfortable.
Regular early postpartum home
visits (usually three in the first week, then again at two weeks), followed by individual or group office
visits at four, six and eight weeks; ongoing
lactation support; postpartum nutrition and exercise counseling; support
for family adjustments; birth certificate paperwork; lab work as indicated, including Newborn Screening; family planning counseling.
Typically these are PAP smear
visits,
lactation support, prenatal or newborn exam
for freebirthing families, RhoGam injections, assessment and letter
for vital statistics (to help obtain birth certificate) etc..
Your insurance is more likely to pay
for a
visit with a
lactation consultant who is also a physician, nurse - midwife, or nurse practitioner.

You will be given a
Lactation Visit Receipt to send in
for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider.
You want to see the
lactation consultant again, but your insurance will only reimburse you
for visits during the newborn period.
For figuring out on their own that their pediatrician who recommended X brand of formula has regular
visits from a very informative and generous representative of the company that makes that formula, and never gets
visited by
lactation consultants in the same way?
Some Private
Lactation Consultants will
visit you in your own home, and some have an office or clinic
for you to travel to.

Breastfeeding was always a goal
for me, and I was happy to
visit with the
lactation consultant at the hospital after my first child was born.
No
lactation consultant,
visiting nurse, or anyone else
for that matter could force this «natural» thing to happen
for me.
For now we address this concern by making the
lactation visits about half the cost of an IBCLC home
visit.
