For example, how does a

law firm library circle around things like number of reference requests, docketed / billed hours spent, and budget targets; it is good to learn about alternatives that provide more value
for measuring performance.
My
law firm library has a lot of baskets: print collection, database access, items used
for current awareness, Canadian content, foreign content, things that are available to borrow locally, things that we can share between our offices, things used by each practice group, things that people need at their desk.
Library statistics
for law firms of comparable size and practices have to be found and then the differing requirements of the
library clientele must be taken into account.
For example, one
law firm was able to slash its
law library budget in half over a two year period by offering its collection in e-book format and making it available through a digital
library solution.
And an ex-BigLaw partner has left his
firm to form a bankruptcy boutique that uses artificial intelligence - powered legal research from ROSS Intelligence to replace junior lawyers who use
law libraries for such support in traditional
firms (like the one he left).
