But scientists could piggyback on those journeys to study topics such as the
plasma environment around the lunar poles, or to begin establishing a network of geophysical landers that would listen
for moonquakes.
Brian Metzger, an astronomer at Columbia University, said that if we could confirm that
plasma lenses are responsible
for the repeating FRB's erratic on - off blast cycle, «this would be telling us something important about the
environment through which the FRB is passing and thus a strong hint as to their origin.»
A star is too extreme an
environment for life as we know it — it's an enormous ball of hot
plasma and even if it had a solid surface to stand on, which it doesn't, life forms like us would get crushed under the star's tremendous gravitational pull.
Ganymede is identified
for detailed investigation since it provides a natural laboratory
for analysis of the nature, evolution and potential habitability of icy worlds in general, and also because of the role it plays within the system of Galilean satellites, and its unique magnetic and
plasma interactions with the surrounding Jovian
environment.
That optimization is critical when diagnostics will be in the unforgiving ITER reactor
environment, with
plasma temperatures of over 100 million degrees C. «
For all of the equatorial ports, the
environment is extremely harsh.
The interesting thing about the physics of
plasma double layers is that they are regions defined by charge separation that enshroud matter immersed in a cell of
plasma, and the electric potential drop occurs within the double layer itself, so if we have a solar source that is positively charged,
for example, and an earth that is negatively charged, then the electric potential drop is not between the anodic sun and the cathodic earth themselves, but within the
plasma double layer shrouding the earth from its
plasma environment.
Based in Tamworth and working within an AS9100 and ISO9001 accredited
environment, the successful Maintenance Engineer will be responsible
for all aspects of PPM and reactive electrical and mechanical maintenance across a variety of vacuum and
Plasma heat treatment furnaces, jigging and general maintenance activities - as well as
for overseeing the program / schedule that ensures machine robustness along with the coordination of production schedule needs, and will be tasked with ensuring that all PPM work is undertaken on both equipment and tools to avoid any interruption of production and to minimize unnecessary downtime.
