For the most part I was underwhelmed by the book until I remembered that the gist of summer food is simplicity, and that book take that notion and runs with it.
It's my favorite food for a crowd, especially in the summer when you can cook it up on your grill, and it becomes a central gathering point as you, the clever chef, layer ingredients one after the other, in ways that seem puzzling to those not in know, and half an hour later - boom!

It was a calm week, filled with good food, TV shows and movies, hot days — which are a nightmare for me, but hey, it is summer, after all — and loads of rest, including strategic naps after lunch.
