A week after a Broward County infant was killed when the passenger - side air bag in her mother's van inflated, the Florida Highway Patrol is issuing a statewide warning to motorists, urging precaution.On Oct. 15, 7 - week - old Jasmine Brown of Pompano Beach died in her child - safety seat when the passenger - side air bag in the van inflated
during a minor collision.Gail Nesmith, the infant's mother, told FHP she had placed Jasmine in the child - safety seat, and turned the seat away from the front of the
car.The
accident, which occurred when Nesmith's van broadsided a Chevrolet at about 25 mph, caused the bag to inflate, pushing the child seat against the
car seat with the
force of a Category 5 hurricane, the FHP said.
