I think too many people overestimate the role
formations play in a team's success.

One of the biggest things achieved by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal
in recent years is the
formation of a plan B, something that many football observers were beginning to believe was a foreign idea to the prof.. It is still true that the boss wants his
team to
play in a certain style that is fluent, exciting and easy on the eye but he also wants to win and that need has forced him into a change of tactics.
I am a huge sports fan.I love nfl and college football i never get enough of it.I am a big soccer [the other football] fanatic.I like basketball, hockey, some baseball and rugby.I am a big jersey buyer i have a lot of jerseys mostly of american football and soccer.I love the strategy of football i think it is fascinating.I have been a falcons fan since 1990 when the went to all black helmets and jerseys i was a fan because of that and because of primetime deion sanders.I have been a falcons fan through thick and thin win or lose they are my

formation flexibility — it took 20 years for Wenger to return to a back 3 and now he can't seem to choose anything but that
formation... the
teams in the premiership and those we could face
in the Europa will present vastly different tactics and we need to have a manager who can prepare this squad for this eventuality and have the fortitude to make the necessary adjustments throughout the season... I have seen nothing
in the past 6 - 7 years to suggest that he is the man to take on this challenge... I can't even remember when he changed
formations when he would replace a small, pacy striker, like during the Walcott experiment, with the lumbering Giroud... of course this is exactly why there is no other manager

I get your point mate.But
in truth Ramsey is the CM and Xhaka is the DM according to our

playing DM.I think Ramsey's tactical awareness is poor but he has every right to take risks and move into the opposition box. He's a box to box player. The only problem is Ramsey overdoes it.If we had a proper CDM the
team would be more balanced. Now it's like we have two CM's
playing in midfield and due to their poor tactical awareness we're always left exposed.I conclude by reminding people that Wilshere is better footballer and is more intelligent than Xhaka. It'll be better
playing Wilshere and pairing him with a CDM than having Xhaka

In the midfield, (including RWB & LWB) we have a whole bunch of tweeners... none offer the full package, none make sense in our manager's current favourite formation, except for Sead on the left and Ox on the right, and all of them have never shown any consistency for more than a heartbeat... I am sure Claude Puel will get his
team playing his way soon, but their one point from the opening three games shows that they have not quite cottoned on to his
formation and tactics just yet, or perhaps what worked
in Ligue 1 simply won't work over here?
Even
in the FA Cup final when
playing Hull, Steve Bruce set up his
team to expose the weaknesses
in this
formation and it was paying off for him big time.
All the other things, like
formations, tactics, transfer deals,
team spirit and all do
play their part but I believe that,
in general, Arsene Wenger and the players are on top of it.
Arsenal will line up the same as always
in a 4 -2-3-1
formation against every side because Wenger is still the same, all the top managers have Wenger's number because he doesn't adapt the
teams playing style according to our opponents from week to week, he thinks the so - called Arsenal way is the best way for every game even though we'll face different
teams with different managers!
lst season at stamford bridge, was the first time i saw that 4 -1-4-1
formation being used, and for some weird reason i feel a very strange negative vibe and well all know the outcome.the manager has come back with this
formation and its not yielding result, but he still sticks with it.i do nt know much about
formations dear friends, but if you are
playing a slow dm
in arteta and a very very slow cb, then you are toast against quality
teams with sound tactics.wen
playing wellbeck as a lone striker, i think 4 -2-3-1, will work better, but if we have a big player like oliver (boooos), thn we can try the 4 -1-4-1, thingy cos he can hold the ball for our midfielders to run
in.but on the overall, shame on wenger for not giving our defence a good cover DM.NO BODY
PLAYS A SLOW DM / CB AND EXPECT TO B REGARDED AS CHAMPIONSHIP MATERIAL.IT HURTS GUYS, REALLY HURTS.
At Arsenal, being the manager, Wenger decides which player is good enough to be bought, which player is good enough to
play in the first
team, which player should start or be «benched», what tactics (
formation and style of
play) to use, when to bring on or take off a player (substitutions) during games, etc..
I am perhaps being a bit hard on the Arsenal man because England struggled
in general
in the first hour or so against a well organised Italy
team that
played a 3 -5-2
formation and allowed little space.
I will not discuss the Sanchez issue, but
in the case of Ozil i feel
in this 3 -4-3
formation the
team becomes less dependent on Ozil providing chances and that benefits the
team, because with Ozil out of the 11 we will not look like we are
playing with 10 men
please stop these silly articles this is a joke Wenger would die rather than
play 7 defenders
in his
team he is no mourinho are u influenced by him there is no problem with this
formation our past 2 seasons best performances have come
playing this
formation and about your one time theory this season only we beat manu that lead us to a run of fa cup and we won that so do your homework properly.
In days gone by it would have been a pre or post match beer and discussion about the game, now it is a 24 × 7 barrage from informed pundits who rival the AKB supporters with WKB (we know better) having never run a football
team yet know better what the tactics or
formation should have been, who should have been
played, who they clearly would have bought (fcking fantasy football) etc etc..
I'd have focused more on Torres (which I did), the lack of CB depth (I'd prefer to have two quality CBs to back up a 3 back rather than just one with one of the starters being a converted CDM), the lack of players who fit the outside mid role well
in this
formation (which, hey, maybe that's part of what you were referring to), and the fact that when you
play more attackers higher up the pitch, it often requires a
team to be able to implement a high pressuring defensive line (Dempsey and Bruin are not suited for that).
Now the 4 -4-2 or the similar 4 -2-3-1 would work nicely for arsenal dependent on the opponent and the players use, i would love to see a welbeck and Sanogo
in the first
formation against
teams like chelsea, stoke, mancity, liverpool these
teams do not like
playing against two strikers against the other
teams i would use the latter formaition,
in both
formation we need to holding MF, preferable a quick physical presence is needed for one while the other is more creative
On the last lap however
team orders came into
play and Fangio won from Kling
in a
formation finish.
I am not convinced Wenger understands 3 at the back but no matter how we
play, if we
play with dedication and discipline for 90 minutes and press and
play as a
team we can do well
in any
formation.
Nwakali is a forward or wing player, nothing like kante and Ramsey is a squad player for me not first
team quality, if Carzola is fit, him and xhaka would be a mouth watering fit but with Arsenals Injurie luck this seems inlikely but i wounder if the five at the back would work if we
play a stubborn
team that defends, i hope Arsene would change the
formation in such games back to 4 -2-3-1 but this would require a proper rght wing which we havent had
in years, we've had OX, Campell, Wallcot, Iwobi, Ramsey, Welbeck and Ozil
play in that position and non of them have made it their own like sanchez has with the left wing
wenger is the oldest deadwood we have at the club, transfers aside whats with the terrible
formations against stronger oppositions, why must ramsey
play every match even when there is no space for him on the
team, le prof will sacrifice a natural winger just to put ramsey
in the
team, get rid of Walcott, sanogo (why did we ever sign him), give ozil the no 10 shirt until wilshere gets his act together, almost forgot get rid of mertesacker.
lets just establish that now... A man with genuine intent to win the league would firstly adress the the issue of squad depth both from a tactical perspective as
in being able to bring
in different personel an completley alter the way the
team plays... you cant keep using the same players and the same
formation and tactics every game
teams will work it out... you wonder why Giroud is on a goal drought.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of
play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and
play» mentality where players
play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense
in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes
in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess
in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance
play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself
in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted
play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required
in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was
playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling
in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched
played for the Swiss national
team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball
play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points
in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he
played with Coq Wenger always seemed to
play Francis
in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself
in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him
in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive
in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been
played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players
in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence
in Real or the space and protection he receives
in the German National
team's midfield, where
teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived
in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components...
in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them
in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion
in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin
in that wing - back position should we continue to use that
formation...
in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often
in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and
in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this
team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place
in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this
team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits

Is wenger not bored of trying out systems to fit ozil
in the
team formation and selection is a mess and buy players that don't fit the system we
play coz wenger takes the cheapest option or third choice target!
Since then Chelsea have
played a vast array of different
teams in their new
formation and have convincingly demolished everyone of them.
But we all know wengers gonna
play Ozil out of position on the wing to unbalance the
team offensively and defensively with no no10
in midfield and jack and aaron together which has been a worse than sh*t
formation and midfield pairing so far this season.
See how well our
team plays when every one is
playing in their right positions and using our winning
formation!
Ainsley Maitland Niles
in his two or so matches a CM has shown me that he can protect the back four and attack very well. Why is Wenger destroying the player at LB?I remember also telling everyone here earlier
in the season that we should change our
formation to four back and that Monreal and Kolasinac shouldn't be
in the same
team as one has to be rested and deputise for the other.I don't care how consistent Monreal is and to me he has no CB qualities. He at times looks almost world class at LB but to me he has no qualities of a CB.Why is Xhaka also starting?Coquelin is twice the player he is for the role Xhaka should be
playing.
After Özil's three month injury, Wenger had to find a solution for the
team and with the new
formation (4 -1-4-1) not working at all, he had to make a decision and it seems like
playing Alexis as a no. 10
in a somewhat more conventional 4 -2-3-1 is his answer
in the time being.
The 6» 1», 245 - pound Lewis, who
played in the 3 - 4 as a rookie, will have to adjust to having another inside linebacker
in the
formation — Ed Hartwell, a 2001 fourth - round draft pick who impressed coaches with his
play on special
teams last season, or free agent Bernardo Harris — but says he'll blitz more, perhaps up to 30 times a game.
Walcott though limited would be very confident against Man united Cech (No word he has shocked me, Wow this guy is too great for a
team with wenger as coach) Bellerin (He really has to improve his attacking side nd try to take on defenders) Chambers (Hez really good against de big guns & always gud
in de middle of de park) Kos (Hez been a bit de-moltivated due to wengers lack of ambition hope Man u will do) Mon (link - up with walcott on the left would be breath of fresh air) Coq (great tackler, stamina & power) Ramsey (great passer of de ball, professional & great stamina) Sanchez (on the right, so he won't always
play predictably) Walcott (thats where he was effective the last time against man u) Welbeck (Pace, goals & trickery) Giroud (Power, bully, link - up & goals) 4 -4-2
formation
It is football, and whatever
formation you
play, or whichever personnel are
in the
team, you have to do your best.
Gabriel for all his mistakes is better than Mertesacker, Holding and Chambers. His only problems were communication and decision making. His sale was pointless. He's now left us with three inconsistent defenders
in Mertesacker, Chambers and Holding. Why am I not shocked that Wenger
plays Monreal over some of these ones. The Ox loss to me is a big loss. There are players which every
team's defender will find difficult to handle and Ox is one of them.He provides us with so much cutting edge. However, I hope we buy a winger and not a wing back when he's sold. Our
formation is a joke and I'm hoping we revert back to our old system. Those also calling for Reiss Nelson to replace him haven't learn their lessons. It'll probably be too late when it comes back to haunt us.
This
team is
playing like a disjointed mess at the moment and that is down to the
formation in my opinion.
This is one of the most balanced
formations and
in my opinion I think it's only second to the traditional 4 -4-2 flat.We
played the best football while using 4 -2-3-1 but of late, with this 5 -2-3 or 3 -4-3 (depending on how you view it) we've been struggling even against smaller
teams.Arsenal is a
team that is really rely on triangles for incisive short passes but honestly with 3 -4-3 (or 5 -2-3) you just can't form the triangles. That's why struggle against mediocre
teams like Stoke, Leicester.I noticed the same thing while we were
playing Sevilla
in Emirates cup friendly.
