Outside of the Legislature,
former gubernatorial
candidate Zephyr Teachout may consider running for the post, as could New York City
Public Advocate Tish James.
Several Democratic women were reportedly on the long list of potential replacements, including Brooklyn Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein,
Public Advocate Letitia James,
former gubernatorial
candidate Zephyr Teachout, U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice and Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.
But Lhota would face a much tougher fight against a Democrat were the election held today, according to the poll, losing by a margin of at least a 3 - 1 against any of the top three
candidates: 62 - 17 to City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, 55 — 19 to
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and 57 — 17 to
former City Comptroller Bill Thompson.
So far, the following
candidates have confirmed: City Council Speaker Christine Quinn,
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Comptroller John Liu,
former Comptroller Bill Thompson and
former Councilman Sal Albanese.
On the Democratic side,
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has so far counted a little over 40 percent of the primary vote, seemingly enough to avoid a runoff with the second place
candidate,
former Comptroller William Thompson.
In the overall race, after Quinn at 25 % and Weiner at 16 %,
former New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson and
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio both stand at 14 %, with the remaining Democratic
candidates in single digits and nearly one in five undecided.
In a Quinnipiac poll last month, Quinn was found with a huge lead among those who are seen as
candidates in the race, ranking well ahead of

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, and current City Comptroller John C. Liu.
That put him just behind Quinn's $ 1.32 million and well ahead of other
candidates, including Stringer,
