On the heels of an agreement by Albany County and a private medical provider to pay $ 1.1 million to the estate of a
former jail inmate who died of a stroke after nurses waited 12 hours to call an ambulance, jail administrators from other counties told
members of the state Assembly on Monday that such private contractors
usually improve medical
services in jails.
