As the most recent statistics on childhood obesity were released — which, incidentally, showed that around one in five
children is overweight or obese as they start school, rising to around a
third of
children by the end of primary school — we launched a white paper setting out what we want to see in the
forthcoming national
child obesity strategy.
A look at a
forthcoming study by researchers at Western Michigan University and the National Education Policy Center shows that only a
third of K12's schools achieved adequate yearly progress, the measurement mandated by federal No
Child Left Behind legislation.
