A doubling to 560 parts per million since the Industrial Revolution could occur by mid-century if global economies adopt the Trump Administration's animosity towards climate action and
fossil fuel consumption continues unabated.

When we mitigate greenhouse - gas emissions, we also create huge co-benefits in the nature of energy security, because if we
continue to increase our
consumption of
fossil fuels, we're really going to put pressure on limited resources of these
fossil fuels.
Consumption of
fossil fuels continues to rise, meanwhile, despite heavy investments from both developed and developing countries into renewables and energy efficiency.
World energy
consumption is forecast to increase by 44 percent from 2006 to 2030, with almost two - thirds of that coming from developing countries and
fossil fuels that
continue to dominate energy supply, according to the Energy Information Administration's 2009 outlook report [pdf] released today.
I would humbly suggest that, while
continued accurate measurements are always wonderful to have, the screamingly obvious main priority is loudly call for all to rapidly abandon ship — leave deadly
fossil fuels behind and quickly climb into the lifeboats of efficiency, vastly reduced
consumption, renewables, and population reduction.
If present rates of
fossil -
fuel consumption continue, the doubling of carbon dioxide from
fossil fuels will occur sometime within the next century or two.
Keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of greenhouse gases have been, and
continue to be, emitted by the massive
fossil fuel consumption of a tiny percentage of the Earth's human population, most of them in countries with low rates of population growth — and that the overwhelming majority of human beings on the Earth, particularly those in countries with relatively high rates of population growth, generate only a small amount of greenhouse gases.
I reject the idea that it is somehow inappropriate to acknowledge that catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is not only possible but plausible if we
continue with anything close to business as usual
consumption of
fossil fuels and the other activities that are contributing to ever - increasing GHG emissions.
I would note that Alex Trembath's useful intervention to this discussion provides insight into why we can expect global energy
consumption will
continue to grow, and tangentially why so much of that energy will be supplied by
fossil fuels without an major breakthroughs in energy technology.
Here are recent statements by vocal media impressarios and think tanks who spend their time, not in a laboratory, but in the popular media trying to convince the public that global warming is either not happening, or is not caused by our
continued consumption of
fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas etc).
The global average temperature is
continuing to rise as a consequence of warming driven by ever higher greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere, in response to the profligate global
consumption of
fossil fuels.
So we shall soon see what the real climate sensitivity is, as the resultant CO2 levels of production from those who have NO INTENTION of slowing down their coal and oil
consumption,
continue to ramp up their use of
fossil fuels.
If
fossil fuel consumption is to blame, and if it
continues to track the exponential growth rate of the past century, it stands to reason that the temperature increase over the next century will be considerably more than over the previous one.
Much of the harm these events cause in Europe comes from physical damage to its industrial life support system, as the global average temperature
continues to rise as a consequence of warming driven by ever higher greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere, in response to the profligate global
consumption of
fossil fuels.
Offshore oil and gas exploration have devastating impacts on the local environment and climate, and the
continued extraction and
consumption of
fossil fuels is incompatible with the Paris agreement and limiting global warming below 1.5 °C.
Simply improving messaging in accordance with recommendations of psychologists or following the recommendations of economists to create economic incentives to engage in less GHG producing behavior will not likely create strong citizen support for climate change policies unless citizens better understand that the narrative created by opponents of climate change policies about high levels of scientific uncertainty and unacceptable harm to the economy from the adoption of climate policies is not only false but has been manufactured by
fossil fuel companies and other entities which have economic interests in
continuing high levels of
fossil fuel consumption.
BP recently released its Statistical Review of World Energy 2015 [i] and found that
consumption of
fossil fuels in 2014
continued...
-RSB- production, transport, and
consumption represent
continued fossil fuel addiction that guarantees runaway climate change...
And even as nations work to reduce CO2 emissions from
fossil fuel consumption, investment in coal, oil and gas production remains high and is expected to hold steady or
continue to grow.
For instance, by 2080, if we assume
continuing growth rates in
consumption of
fossil fuels, the numbers of additional people exposed to frequent flooding in the river delta areas of the world would be counted in hundreds of millions assuming no adaptation measures were implemented.»
Despite the potential to reduce
fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and to provide the convenience of home charging, electrified vehicles will
continue to be a niche market in the global transportation industry, the report finds.
In addition, we strongly support efforts to rationalize and phase - out over the medium term inefficient
fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful
consumption, and to
continue voluntary reporting on progress.
And the
fossil fuel industry as a whole stands to make TRILLIONS of dollars in profit from
continued business - as - usual
consumption of their products.
This amount of
consumption, especially from
fossil fuel energy sources, will
continue to harm the environment until we come together and find better ways to create energy.
