Pet Care Project's mission is to feed the animals of
homeless and low income persons; to offer education on
pet care and spay / neuter; assist with access to veterinary care; to
foster respect

At any given time, there are only so many

home, so I always remind myself that no matter how much I love my
fosters and no matter how much fun they are having at my house, there is a more perfect place
for them to be, a family where they can be the center of the universe.
Fostering means bringing in a cat or dog — or parrot, or baby pig, or any other
homeless pet — with the goal of nurturing them
for a while until they can be dispatched to a permanent
home with a family who'll love them forever.
For over 30 years, OLHS» dedicated staff and volunteers have worked to improve the plight of lost, unwanted, abandoned, and
homeless animals by providing shelter, care, rescue, adoption services, and
foster homes; to investigate incidents of animal cruelty, abandonment, and neglect; and to promote responsible
pet ownership by advocating spay / neuter, permanent identification, and the humane and compassionate treatment of animals.
Fostering helps prepare

for success in their new
homes.
HHAS serves as the voice
for these animals and
fosters the placement of
homeless pets in compatible, loving
homes while also providing the community with
pet care awareness and education.
Their reasons
for ending up in a shelter or
foster home vary dramatically: some were lost, some were born
homeless, some were rescued from abuse and some were turned in because an owner developed allergies, had to move, passed away, could no longer afford to care
for their
pet or whose lifestyle was a mismatch with an animal's needs.
Due to our full space capacity and limited number of
foster homes, we must freeze our intake and regrettably turn
homeless pets away
for the interim.
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-
home unwanted dogs and cats; to prevent overpopulation through spay / neuter; to restore dignity, trust and quality of life
for neglected, abused and
homeless dogs and cats; to find the best
home for each dog and cat in our care; to educate adopters and our community on
pet care, spaying / neutering, training and suitable animal selection
for their lifestyle; to provide a network of resources, volunteers and
fosters for animals, animal shelters / pounds and the community.
It is our hope that the Good Samaritans will join AAPAW in saving more lives by opening their own
homes to temporarily
foster the
pet and provide food, shelter and care
for the
homeless pets they rescue.
We also find
homes for homeless pets providing
foster homes and medical care while the
pets are waiting
for their new
homes.
Pet
foster homes are growing in popularity, both with
fosters and also with animal shelters to help expand their capacity to care
for the community's
homeless pets.
If you love animals but just can't adopt,
fostering an animal in your
home for a short period of time may be the perfect way
for you to help
homeless pets.
This raises their chances of adoption, which not only saves the adopted animal's life... it opens up a space in a
pet foster volunteer's
home for another
homeless animal.
