I think it begs to be paired with parsley, garlic and toasted nuts, and when serving this soup, it's important to layer the toppings as suggested — the crunchy spices and toasty hazelnuts, and the fresh parsley, with the cold garlicky crème
fraiche go so well with the hot creamy celery root soup.

Usually when you finish a soup like this — and by «like this» I mean a relatively simple sauté of onion and garlic, a simmering of vegetables in broth followed by a run in the blender — cream or crème
fraiche or sour cream
goes in and you could do that here, but I didn't want to bury the brightness of the miso paste, so I instead drizzled some toasted sesame oil on it (which is, frankly, like crack to me) and scattered some thinly sliced scallions.
This
goes great with custard, ice cream, cream, Creme
fraiche or even just on its own.

going for cottage cheese or a low fat cream alternative (yoghurt, low fat soft cheese, low fat crème

go wrong with a cheese plate, something braised the day before (coq a vin; short ribs, brisket, lamb shanks), salad and a simple dessert like a cake with creme
fraiche or whipped cream, pie or even chocolate chip cookies (which I always have frozen and ready to bake).

I will follow your advise - butt squash instead of pumpkin, add some chopped bacon, I will use creme
fraiche instead of cream, some sage (as I think it
goes really well with butt squash) and lots of garlic - can't have a meal without garlic!
Keep the party
going with a dessert menu — bake bananas in their skins and serve with warm chocolate sauce, or wrap soft fruit in foil parcels, sprinkle with brown sugar and bake for about 5 minutes & serve with crème
fraiche.
