Not so much by direct photolysis of water vapor (not generally a lot of that in the stratosphere), but from CH4, which could build up in a nearly oxygen - free atmosphere, and being largerly of biotic origin, with the H coming from photosynthesis (releasing O); O2 buildup itself was delayed because of geologic O2 sinks (in particular, the conversion of ferrous Fe (naturally present in the crust and mantle and which can dissolve in the oceans) to ferric Fe (precipitates out of the water, the source of banded - iron formations, which humans have used to get Fe).

Further evidence has accumulated of an anthropogenic influence on the temperature of the free atmosphere as measured by radiosondes and satellite - based instruments.

Taking into account a number of variables that could accompany temperature rise, like changes to the atmosphere and oceans, they found that August and September would be ice - free in the Arctic with a doubling of CO2, which they wrote could happen by the middle of the 21st century.

Evaluating ocean and atmospheric observations with advanced modeling tools, scientists from NOAA and CIRES found that about 60 percent of 2016's record warmth was caused by record - low sea ice observed that year, and the ensuing transfer of ocean heat to the atmosphere across wide expanses of ice - free or barely frozen Arctic Ocean.

And according to emissions specialists like the Tyndall Centre's Kevin Anderson (as well as others), so much carbon has been allowed to accumulate in the atmosphere over the past two decades that now our only hope of keeping warming below the internationally agreed - upon target of 2 degrees Celsius is for wealthy countries to cut their emissions by somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 — 10 percent a year.27 The «free» market simply can not accomplish this task.

There is a small effect from the radiative properties of the «GHG's», but they simply act as a sort of hybrid thermal / optical delay line which delays the flow of any single photon through the Sun / Earth / Atmosphere / Universe system by causing it to make multiple «bounces» through the system: surface / GHG / surface / GHG / escape to the energy free void of space.

Paper may have environmental advantages in that unlike coal, the CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) that is released into the atmosphere is not additional CO2 freed from coal sequestration and permanently added to the atmosphere, but may be recaptured by planting a tree to create more paper.

According to Wikipedia they explain the RE by saying: «If CO2 in the atmosphere is increased by one part per million, the CO2 in the ocean is increased by only a tenth of a part per million, because of the way that the carbon dioxide in the water is partitioned between carbonate ions and bicarbonate ions and free CO2.

Add to that the thinning of 14C in the atmosphere by the release of 14C free fossil fuels and thinning by the increase of total CO2 mass, and it is clear that the 14C as tracer is going down much faster than what an extra 12C / 13C mass does.

Add to that the increase in the atmosphere and the addition of 14C free CO2 by fossil fuel burning.

Smoke free zones were established but of course their pollution effect was caused by high water vapor in the atmosphere from the surrounding river.

In our GHG free hypothetical system the atmosphere would still heat up in the day, and would therefore still have to rid itself of the energy by radiation?

So our GHG free atmosphere would radiate all it must and loose energy by that process exactly in the same way as a GHG full atmosphere does.
