Roughly 2,000 American babies die each
year under SIDS circumstances; according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, SIDS is the third most
frequent cause
of infant mortality in America, behind
birth defects and disorders related to being born prematurely.
The most successful interventions begin before, or soon after
birth and continue for at least a
year, include
frequent home visits (e.g. visits two to three times a month) with hands - on parental education, use
of video interaction therapy and group - based support and discussions.
