from the WAIS and GIS is * not included *.
What is of concern in the Antarctica is the loss of ice from the ice sheet, and the loss
from WAIS is increasing, and there are signs that even the EAIS may now be beginning to lose ice.
The Antarctic simulations used in Levermann et al. (10) do not isolate sea - level contribution subtotals
from the WAIS, which has a total sea - level content of ∼ 3.3 m (25).
The East Antarctic Ice Sheet (EAIS): 25 million cubic kilometres, on various terrain, mostly separated from the sea and
from the WAIS by various mountain ranges.
The GIS differs
from the WAIS, however, because the former is now largely land - based and the latter marine - based, which potentially makes the WAIS more vulnerable to an abrupt and much less predictable onset of retreat.
The real take home message here is that the ice loss
from the WAIS and from the Antarctic Peninsula that have been observed in the last few decades are indeed likely to be harbingers of things to come.

Physical punishment is associated with a range of mental health problems in children, youth and adults, including depression, unhappiness, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, use of drugs and alcohol, and general psychological maladjustment.26 — 29 These relationships may be mediated by disruptions in parent — child attachment resulting
from pain inflicted by a caregiver, 30,31 by increased levels of cortisol32 or by chemical disruption of the brain's mechanism for regulating stress.33 Researchers are also finding that physical punishment is linked to slower cognitive development and adversely affects academic achievement.34 These findings come
from large longitudinal studies that control for a wide range of potential confounders.35 Intriguing results are now emerging
from neuroimaging studies, which suggest that physical punishment may reduce the volume of the brain's grey matter in areas associated with performance on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, third edition (
WAIS - III).36 In addition, physical punishment can cause alterations in the dopaminergic regions associated with vulnerability to the abuse of drugs and alcohol.37
Co-author Dr Gerhard Kuhn,

The combination of global warming and accelerating sea level rise
from Greenland could be the trigger for catastrophic collapse in the

The warming of the
WAIS is most worrisome (at least for this century) because it's going to disintegrate long before the East Antarctic Ice Sheet does «'' since
WAIS appears to be melting
from underneath (i.e. the water is warming, too), and since, as I wrote in the «high water» part of my book, the
WAIS is inherently less stable:
