As mentioned above there is no definitive cause for a ruptured CrCl in your dog but there are a number ofcontributing factors: obesity, inactivity with occasional strenuous activity, conformation (very straight legged dogs, like pitbulls, put tremendous stress on their knee joint), hormonal imbalances (possibly

neutering) and inflammatory conditions.
A more recent publication
from U.C. Davis (de la Riva, Hart et al, 2013) looked at two joint disorders and three cancers — hip dysplasia, cranial cruciate ligament tear, lymphosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma and mast cell tumor — and showed that, for all five diseases analyzed, the disease rates were significantly higher in both males and females that were

I'm curious now... could the reason that dogs
neutered early have a far greater risk for hip dysplasia be
from the young dog being excessively stretched on the surgical table?
