Seven different
assessments that attempt to define and measure
effective teaching
practices are reviewed in a new working paper
from the Consortium for Policy Research in Education.
These include Alignment Institutes; the ADP
Assessment Consortium, which allows states to share best
practices and drive improvements in
effective assessment; and the College - and Career - Ready Policy Institute, a comprehensive technical assistance effort supporting work in eight states with support
from a number of other national partners.
Working closely with their peers in school - based or interest - based learning communities,
effective teachers learn to use
assessment data, reflections on their own
practice, and moment - by - moment feedback
from children to vary the support they provide to students with different levels of expertise and confidence.
These workshops will cover the topics educators care about most —
from formative
assessment to smarter grading solutions — and will bring ASCD authors and Faculty members to school campuses to give hands - on training in
effective practices from their best - selling ASCD books.
In addition to important source documents, documentation and demonstration of
effective, consistent, professional learning regarding
assessment —
from pre-service to induction to accomplished
practice — are needed.
Statewide
assessment and accountability data for districts featured in this work will be used as one vehicle for gauging the degree to which students with disabilities are benefiting
from district - wide implementation of
effective practices.
The education minister at the time, Jane Hutt said: «The real benefits of the Pisa
assessments will come not
from the headline figures and league table rankings, but
from the detailed analysis of strengths and weaknesses and what more we can learn
from the best and most
effective practice internationally.»
Moreover, although prior research has also shown that
effective secondary writing teachers use patterns in student work to plan the lessons that follow an assignment (Newell, 2008), the separation of methods coursework
from field experiences makes it difficult for teacher candidates in secondary English teaching methods courses to
practice using
assessment of student writing to inform their subsequent writing teaching.

from the rubric.
