http://www.treeworld.info/f29/trees-regulate-leaf-temperature-2846.html ScienceDaily (Jun. 11, 2008)-- The temperature inside a healthy, photosynthesizing tree leaf is affected less by outside environmental temperature than originally believed, according to new research from biologists at the University of Pennsylvania.
The temperature climatologies were supplemented by upper atmosphere temperature climatologies derived from the National Center for Environmental Prediction's North American Regional Reanalysis (Mesinger et al., 2006; emc.ncep.noaa.gov / mmb / rreanl /).
Pursuant to the urgent need for this knowledge in U.S. waters of the western North Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, we integrated aerial and shipboard cetacean surveys conducted by five scientific organizations over 23 years and linked them to environmental data relating to cetacean habitat, such as sea surface temperature and chlorophyll concentration, obtained from satellite remote sensing and ocean models.
Now, researchers from Germany and the US, who examined global mean surface temperature (GMST) trends in the light of a recent series of three record - breaking years in a row in most data sets, have published the results of their study, which identified two important pitfalls in analysing GMST trends, in Environmental Research Letters.
We know that a continued increase in global temperature will mean a continued increase in environmental harm resulting from our addiction to and over-reliance on coal, gas, and oil.
