The gameplay is what one would expect from a platformer
from era of gaming, or a game paying homage to the era gaming.
This truly feels and plays like an old school title, but contrary to my expectations, it doesn't feel like the elements have been phoned in or simply taken
from that era of gaming simply for the fact of making a retro game.
There's lots of shooting robots and bugs and so forth since many of the titles of yesteryear were based on that simple gameplay mechanic, but these titles are clearly
from another era of gaming and never approach the kinds of content that may be included in some modern titles.
Not exact matches
Besides some obvious holdbacks and design tropes
from an early
era in
gaming, its vast and rich world, great voice acting and depth
of play mostly make up for its shortcomings.

Vice City is one
of the most critically acclaimed games
from the PS2
era due to an incredible storyline, fantastic celebrity voice acting, a vibrant take on Miami, a phenomenal soundtrack and several
gaming innovations.
Borrowing, stylistically,
from the games
of the 16 - bit
era, Kobold's Quest looks in many ways like it was ported
from a different generation
of gaming, but the sense
of humor is certainly a bit more up - to date and adult in nature.
Brought to you in all pixelated -16-bit-esque glory, full
of references to not only
gaming, but all
of the pop culture
from the 80's and 90's, better yet - with the mechanics
of modern
era gaming.
The Settlers
of Catan was the game that crossed the ocean
from Germany to the U.S. in the late 1990's and kicked off this new
era in board
gaming.

of gaming genres

eras that not only provides a blast
from the past but will make new gamers appreciate the diverse history

Even if you can't get your hands on an original system and cartridges there are a heap
of emulation options and there are all - in - one consoles such as the Atari Flashback that do a decent job
of letting you feel what
gaming from that
era was like.
