Just because a child has severe disabilities or needs modifications to the general education curriculum does not mean that he or she may be removed
from the general education class.
If a child truly has a disability and can not for that reason
benefit from general education, then the proper response is to offer the benefits of special education.
Adding to all of this, special education teachers frequently work alone, in isolation
from their general education peers, who may have team meetings once a week instead of once a month.

In describing what the student can do in the academic areas, the IEP team will use as its reference point the academic
expectations from the general education curriculum for the student's age appropriate grade.
