from a
shelter.
As the
behavior and training manager, part of my role is to develop individual training plans for
shelter dogs who display common behavioral issues: fear, lack of impulse control, high arousal, or deterioration
from kennel stress.
All of the Labs that we consider rescuing
from an animal
shelter are temperament tested for aggression and guarding
behavior.
Others are fine with rescue dogs
from a
shelter, but I have known more than one dog who was returned to the
shelter because the new owner could not deal with the
behavior problems the dog came with (and the reason they were initially turned in).

shelter including: donation collections, outreach,
behavior helpline, and adoption follow - up calls.
Many individuals, and families for that matter, assume that by getting a brand new puppy
from a breeder or a
shelter, you will be able to train the dog to have good
behavior and ease any aggression as they age.
We found that many
behaviors seemed stable when the cat was moved
from one environment (the
shelter) to a new environment (the home).
I wanted to be able to encourage people to train their dogs, so the dog that they loved so much and adopted would not be passed
from home to home, placed back in a
shelter and a risk of being euthanized because of the
behaviors that with rehabilitation and training can be corrected.

It is hard to tell if the issues are stress related
