While the cost of solving for inequality may seem daunting
from an economic,
social and political standpoint, keep in mind that the wisely targeted investments in proven
supports and
programs can deliver significant returns in individual flourishing and better economic and
social outcomes for society.
The parenting intervention consisted of culturally tailored societal information combined with the Connect parenting
support program.24 The culturally tailored societal information was developed based on an earlier finding
from a qualitative focus group discussion.6 This part of the intervention constituted the first part of the
program (2 sessions) and covered 3 themes: convention on the rights of the child, parenting styles (authoritarian and democratic parenting), and the aim and purpose of
social services work with children.
Addressing this, the
Social Justice Commissioner's Unit conducted research and consultations during 2003 and 2004 to identify what
support programs are available to Indigenous women upon their release
from prison.
The
Social Justice Report also contains the findings of research on the
support programs available to Indigenous women upon their release
from prison.
The Healthy Fathering Collaborative of Greater Cleveland (HFC) is a network of public and private agencies that aims to provide education, services, and
support directly to fathers throughout the lifespan of fatherhood,
from pre-conception and pregnancy to childbirth, early childhood, and parenting school - age children.85 Member agencies provide four types of services:
programs that help fathers address barriers that impact their involvement with their children; supportive services for fathers; fatherhood development
programs; and father - child
social / recreational event
programs.86
During my 4 - years at the CDM I was responsible for the co-creation and development of a successful developmentally based
programs supporting social cognitive development in young children
from 3 - 12 years old.
