We adapted the findings
from the study to provide a
checklist to
use as a starting point for a discussion about the ways that schools can meet the socio - emotional and academic needs
of newcomers in schools and society.
When identification procedures require the
use of «cut scores» and / or formulas that combine scores
from a variety
of measures into a single score (i.e., an IQ score combined with an achievement score and a performance score
from a
checklist), we violate sound statistical methods and the data are no longer valid (Frasier, 1997).
I have tried and tested many versions
of a query letter and the following is a
checklist I
use in my query letters today, and so far it has been the most successful in getting positive responses

Teachers were asked to describe child classroom behavior during the last month
of kindergarten by
using questions
from the Child Behavior
Checklist.14 Teachers rated statements about child behavior as «not true,» «somewhat or sometimes true,» and «very true or often true» for the child.
The Child Behaviour
Checklist is a commonly
used test for children
from 2 to 16 years
of age to monitor their well being, such as whether they are anxious, uncommunicative, depressed, aggressive, delinquent, withdrawn or hyperactive.
Adolescents» behaviour may vary
from one context to another, or
from one interaction partner to another, and informants» reports may be affected by their own perspectives.13 Because there is no gold standard for psychiatric disorders, and reports
from different informants tend to correlate only moderately,
using information
from multiple informants seems the best strategy to chart mental health.14 Among other things, adherence to this first principle is expressed in the
use of child (Youth Self - report; YSR), and parent (Child Behavior
Checklist; CBCL) questionnaires on child / adolescent mental health, which are part
of the Achenbach System
of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA), 15,16 and the
use of a teacher - report (Teacher
Checklist of Psychopathology), which was developed for TRAILS on the basis
of the Achenbach Teachers Report Form.17 It is also expressed in the
use of peer nominations to assess adolescents» social status at school.
The Child Behavior
Checklist (CBCL) was
used to predict parent - reported behavioural / emotional problems in 125 10 — 15 year - old congenital heart disease children
from: (1) biographical status (2) medical history (3) heart surgery (4) short - term post-operative course and (5) number
of heart operations and (6) extra cardiac concomitant anomalies.
Two reviewers will independently assess the suitability
of the preference - based instruments for measuring outcomes in palliative care
using the ISOQOL, minimum standards for patient - reported outcome measures (conceptual and measurement model, reliability, content validity, construct validity, responsiveness, interpretability
of scores, translation
of measure, patient and investigator burden), 43 and the CREATE
checklist (descriptive system, health states values, sampling, preference data collection, study sample, modelling, scoring algorithm).44 The ISOQOL minimum standards were chosen as these standards were developed
from a systematic review
of published and unpublished guidance on patient - reported outcome measures, including the COnsensus - based Standards for the selection
of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN).46 To the authors» knowledge, the CREATE
checklist is the only published guidance on what key components should be reported in a valuation study.44 Information on how the contents
of the instruments were developed, psychometric properties and valuation will be
used to assess the suitability
of the instruments for the palliative setting; instruments will be scored on whether the domains or dimensions were developed
using input
from informal caregivers
of people receiving palliative care (yes / no) and whether each
of the reporting
checklist items has been evaluated for this population (if yes, then a score
of one will be allocated) and a total score calculated.
Finally, the degree
of suitability
of the instruments for economic evaluations in the palliative care setting will be assessed by scoring whether the domains or dimensions were developed
using input
from informal caregivers
of people receiving palliative care and whether items
from the International Society for Quality
of Life Research (ISOQOL) 43 minimum standards for patient - reported outcome measures and the
checklist for reporting valuation studies
of multiattribute utility - based instruments (CREATE) 44 have been evaluated in this population.
Consistent with prior short - term outcomes, the primary measure at age 3 years was externalising behaviour problems, assessed by the 99 - item validated Child Behaviour
