Every cat
needs full mouth dental radiographs, needs those radiographs interpreted correctly and if extractions are required, needs appropriate multi-modal pain prevention and treatment which must include LOCAL pain blocks as well as general anesthesia and follow up analgesia.
Full mouth dental radiographs are taken to evaluate for hidden disease because 60 % of the tooth area is out of view below the gum - line.
We include a full mouth exam, a thorough supra and subgingival (above and below the gum line) cleaning of each tooth, and
full mouth dental radiographs.
We prefer to take
full mouth dental radiographs as studies have shown that many lesions can be detected with full mouth dental radiographs than would be otherwise detected on oral exam alone and print copies of these radiographs for clients.
More importantly, pets need to have routine oral evaluations with dental probing and
full mouth dental radiographs no less than every 2 years and in some pets every 6 months.
