of corporations and companies, and can respond to complaints when non-profits especially are allegedly not
functioning within the public interest, or there are other issues with governance, conflicts
of interest, inurement (use
of a tax - exempt non-profit for the private benefit or excessive benefit
of someone with insider
relationships), misuse
of funds that were solicited to be spent on a specific designation project, etc..
We have disavowed a view
of the relation between the colleges and the churches which would permit viewing them as
agencies of the church in preference for a covenant

of view on crucial issues.
The nature
of religious television in America can be seen to be a
function of the interaction
of four main players; changes over the past decades have come about because
of changes in the relative power and
relationships of the four following players: (1) the regulatory
agencies of the federal government, which, through the legislative process, provide the structure within which interaction inside the television industry takes place; (2) the television industry, primarily network and local station managements, which control the airwaves within the legislated structure; (3) the viewing public, which selects what it is that will be watched; and (4) the religious broadcasters who provide the material for broadcasts.
Over the course
of this grant, FOI: (1) is producing professional development materials to help staff representing multiple state
agencies better understand the basic science
of child development generally and the promotion
of executive
function and self - regulation skills more specifically; (2) is supporting the creation
of small learning communities, building on existing
relationships at the site and policy level and connecting to other learning communities across North America; (3) is supporting the Washington cross-agency working group to sustain its current gains and momentum during the upcoming executive branch transition in January and to share lessons learned with the broader national FOI community
of states and Canadian provinces; and (4) is beginning conversations with stakeholders at the community level to explore mutual interests and is beginning to chart a path toward enhanced collaboration within the state.
Karen lectures and conducts workshops in local hospitals and community
agencies on the impact
of chronic and life threatening illnesses on family
functioning, an area
of particular interest; as well as gender issues, divorce, adoption, coaching and the impact
of money on the balance
of power in couple
relationships.
