Mike Dopita and his colleagues at the Australian National University in Canberra, working with a team led by Zlatan Tsvetanov of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, believe that galactic winds provide the answer.
The team determined that galacticwinds alone could not replenish the newly revealed gaseous reservoirs and suggests that the mass is provided by galactic mergers or accretion from hidden streams of gas, as predicted by current theory.
