It was conceived more than a decade ago as a way to unravel the history of our Milky Way
galaxy; the HERMES instrument was
designed and built by the AAO specifically for the GALAH
survey.
This sharpest - ever image, taken in January 2005 with the Advanced Camera for
Surveys aboard the NASA / ESAHubble Space Telescope, illustrates a spiral
galaxy's grand
design, from its curving spiral arms, where young stars reside, to its yellowish central core, a home of older stars (Credit: NASA, ESA, S. Beckwith (STScI), and The Hubble Heritage Team (STScI / AURA)-RRB-
Here we present an overview of and initial results from the Complete Calibration of the Color - Redshift Relation (C3R2)
survey,
designed specifically to calibrate the empirical
galaxy color - redshift relation to the Euclid depth.
