For Serralves, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané has conceived a living landscape for the Museum's central
gallery in which a glass pavilion
housing a garden and mimetic creatures, a set of free standing sculptures, a
wall drawing, a hologram and windows that alter the experience of viewing are brought together to create a living ecosystem of transfigurations and metamorphosis, both real and symbolic.»

Its down - value look and activist ethos are evident
in everything, including the black
house - paint mural he has brushed, single - handedly, across one of the museum's
wall and the hand - printed, hand - bound books he has placed
in the
gallery he designates as chapel and library.
It's especially apparent at the 21st Street branch, where the
gallery took the strange step of building a freestanding structure
in the middle of the
gallery to
house the paintings and left the surrounding
walls untouched.
It also highlights the great use of space
in this exhibition;
housed in the old Duke of York barracks the
gallery has a number of vast rooms and the abundance of space available is perfectly exploited and handled to the benefit of the installations
in a way that isn't as easily achieved
in exhibitions focused on
wall hangings.
Adian's
wall - mounted abstract paintings, made by stretching canvas over shaped pieces of foam, will find themselves
in a group show titled «Rascal
House» with Blair Thurman, John Armleder, and Stephane Kropf at Half
Gallery in January 2015, followed by an installation at Lever
House in New York.

His installation consists of two similar horizontal wooden structures which relate
in color and height to several 12 - inch - wide horizontal bands applied with ordinary
house paint on each
gallery wall.
Our own retrospective begins with a review of Rauschenberg's 1958 show at Castelli
gallery by poet John Ashbery, who notes that the artist's junk - covered canvases «look like
walls in a
house inhabited by very bad children.»
One of the newest pieces of furniture we've added to our
house was the sweet little table you may remember at the bottom of our stairs
in front of our
gallery wall.
