Actually I'm feeling depressed right now too, because MY 3
garden basil plants are slowly dying from the cold temps.

planted in 2009 on the White House's South Lawn and grows arugula, cilantro, tomatillo, hot peppers, spinach, chard, collards, black kale, berries, lettuce, anise hyssop, and Thai
basil.

If you don't have the space for a traditional
garden, consider
planting cherry tomatoes and
basil in pots, or participating in a local farm co-op.
In fact, one summer, we had 3 foot tall
basil plants take over the
garden.
By the way - my tip for some pretty impressive Herbes de Provence - style mixed herbs - buy cheap sachets of individual herbs (eg tarragon, thyme, rosemary,
basil) and mix them up in a large jar with some dried lavender flowers (purloined from a neighbour's
garden or a public park if you have» t got a
plant yourself - you only need about three heads of flowers to give a lively tang to some mixed herbs).
The cylinder cement container was going to be a candle holder for outdoors on the lanai and the fluted
garden planter was for the
basil plant that Dean recently purchased.
