We analyzed the
effect of a medium - high greenhouse
gas emissions scenario (Special Report on Emissions Scenarios A2 in IPCC 2000) and included updated projections of sea - level rise based on
work by Rahmstorf (Science 315 (5810): 368, 2007).
The
work of reconstructing past climate changes, though it uses correlations between multiple proxies and climate, is subject to validation and in and of itself is not proof of any
effect (be it solar or greenhouse
gases or whatever).

But few of us appreciate what exactly it is in the atmosphere that makes the
effect work and why small changes in trace
gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) might make a difference.
The impossible AGWSF Greenhouse
Effect world does not have any atmosphere at all, it goes straight from the surface to its imagined empty space with the imaginary ideal
gases without mass zipping around at great speeds miles apart from each other, so it has no convection because it has no real
gas for gravity to
work on.
Or I would say a thermos
works much better than greenhouse
gases - and how it
works is missing from greenhouse
effect theory.
Unlike Kiehl and Trenberth who base much of their argument on published supposition and make the horrible error of not leaving any energy in their balance to create fossil fuels, Miskolczi rigorously sets about
working from the actual spectral
effects from atmospheric
gases and provides a properly justified but theoretical scientific case for demonstrating the errors of Kiehl and Trenberth.
I believe what is missing from this article and perhaps much of the
work of many in this field is an equal focus on the cooling
effect of Earthshine emitting and absorbing (i.e. greenhouse)
gases.
It is simply that there is not any REAL reason to worry a over non-existent, non-actual, non-possible «GREENHOUSE
effect» induced «climate change», as is the «short answer»... and with the additional «appendix» that those «alternate» sources (so often mentioned) of «electricity generation» also only
work «in opinion» and do NOT present REAL alternatives to
Gas and Coal (as of NOW).
The whole greenhouse
gas scare only
works by exaggerating any small
effects that suit it and at the sametime ignoring all
effects that don't.
(The fact that they all are is conclusive evidence that there is little or no scope on real planets for changes in «greenhouse»
gasses to have significant temperature
effects — even if the process
worked just the way the AGW theorists claim!)
A greenhouse
gas is expected to
work its warming through the greenhouse
effect, absorbing infrared radiation and converting it to heat that warms the atmosphere.
The presence of feedback
effects and tipping points calls into question some of the most fundamental assumptions of climate change negotiations, including the belief that we can «overshoot» to, say, 550 ppm and then
work back to 450 ppm (the path advocated in the Stern and Garnaut reports), that greenhouse
gas concentrations in the atmosphere can be stabilised at some level, and the belief that we can adapt to some given degree of warming.

Skeptics are
working from a scientific point of view - they admit that the evidence for CO2 being a greenhouse
gas is overwhelming and that pumping lots of it into the atmosphere will have an
effect, an
effect as the IPCC says of about 1 degree of warming.
«It is well understood that [aerosols»] presence is masking a substantial amount of greenhouse
gas warming,» says Cat Scott, a research fellow at the University of Leeds whose own
work has helped scientists understand the cooling
effect of aerosols.
The basic physics of greenhouse
gases are simply not one of those things that are not well - enough understood and if you don't understand how greenhouse
gases work you can't possibly move on to any reasonable debate about other phenomena which can and do (IMO) largely negate the
effects of increasing greenhouse
gases and leave us in a situation where the modest increase in carbon dioxide has vast beneficial
effect by warming the planet at high latitudes where warming is welcome, not warming it at low latitudes where it is already warm enough, increasing the growth rate of green plants, and decreasing the water needs of green plants at the same time.
Two takeaways: The first, from the researchers is that should this
work be confirmed by other studies, indoor ventilation rates should be increase; the second, a question from me, is that as outdoor CO2 rises to 600ppm (as it well may should we not reduce greenhouse
gas emissions), what will the
effect be on indoor levels — after all you would be starting from a considerably higher baseline?
Third we have the John Dodds alternate Wobble Theory of Climate Change» at www, scribd.com or at http://earth-climate.com which shows that the Arrhenius claim that more Greenhouse
Gases means more warming (ie the Greenhouse
Effect) does not
work every night when Mother Natures nightly experiment shows that more GHGs actually result in cooling contrary to the Arrhenius / IPCC theory.
Since water vapor is such a powerful greenhouse
gas, any increase in temperature in this region of the atmosphere should be largely a result of the
effects of water vapor (IPCC
Working Group 1 Assessment Report 4, Chapter 3, «Observations: Surface and Atmospheric Climate Change», Figure 3.21, page 275).
First, the idea has to actually
work, second, the side
effects need to be minimal, and third, it has to be able to keep up with an increasing forcing from ever higher greenhouse
gas levels, and fourth, it has to be cheaper than the simply reducing emissions at source.
Because the basics of anthropogenic global warming are fairly straightforward — CO2 is a greenhouse
gas, because of the lapse rate water vapor condenses or freezes out in the troposphere and acts mainly to amplify the
effect of CO2, humans are burning a lot of fossil C and increasing the CO2 in the atmosphere, the surface of the earth is warming, the cryosphere is retreating, the climate that supports civilization is rapidly changing, and consequently we are facing an uncertain future — but the details are complex, it's easy to «misunderestimate» the way climate
works in detail.
However, one aspect of the Howarth study uses
work that I've been involved in to better estimate the indirect
effects of short - lived emissions (including methane, the dominant component of shale
gas).
Moreover, when you then convert the three
gases to a comparable unit based on their potential to warm the planet over a 100 - year time frame, the planet's biosphere
works out to be a net source of greenhouse
gases, causing a warming comparable to the
effect of between 3.8 and 5.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
We have already seen in this marathon with the 2 N's that without convection the greenhouse
effect would be much larger on Earth; that being the case, given that Mars has an atmosphere almost entirely composed of the greenhouse
gas CO2 and no convection, why does it have equivalent Tave and Teff if the greenhouse
effect works as Arthur Smith describes?
Topics that I
work on or plan to
work in the future include studies of: + missing aerosol species and sources, such as the primary oceanic aerosols and their importance on the remote marine atmosphere, the in - cloud and aerosol water aqueous formation of organic aerosols that can lead to brown carbon formation, the primary terrestrial biological particles, and the organic nitrogen + missing aerosol parameterizations, such as the
effect of aerosol mixing on cloud condensation nuclei and aerosol absorption, the semi-volatility of primary organic aerosols, the importance of in - canopy processes on natural terrestrial aerosol and aerosol precursor sources, and the mineral dust iron solubility and bioavailability + the change of aerosol burden and its spatiotemporal distribution, especially with regard to its role and importance on
gas - phase chemistry via photolysis rates changes and heterogeneous reactions in the atmosphere, as well as their
effect on key
gas - phase species like ozone + the physical and optical properties of aerosols, which affect aerosol transport, lifetime, and light scattering and absorption, with the latter being very sensitive to the vertical distribution of absorbing aerosols + aerosol - cloud interactions, which include cloud activation, the aerosol indirect
effect and the impact of clouds on aerosol removal + changes on climate and feedbacks related with all these topics In order to understand the climate system as a whole, improve the aerosol representation in the GISS ModelE2 and contribute to future IPCC climate change assessments and CMIP activities, I am also interested in understanding the importance of natural and anthropogenic aerosol changes in the atmosphere on the terrestrial biosphere, the ocean and climate.
It's the second of three reports by the panel designed to inform lawmakers worldwide as they
work toward a global treaty and devise domestic policies to cut greenhouse
gases and protect against the
effects of climate change.
