The use of coal as a
fuel has now surpassed oil and developing countries now emit more greenhouse
gases than developed countries — with a quarter of their growth in emissions
accounted for by increased trade with the West.

According to the Tailpipe Rule, CO2 emissions due to air conditioner - related loads on automobile engines

Almost all biofuels used today cause more greenhouse
gas emissions than conventional
fuels if the full emissions costs of producing these «green»
fuels are taken into
account, two studies being published Thursday have concluded.
Coal is the
fuel of choice for 44 % of electricity generation, while natural

Wind capacity additions

Each of those assessments attempts to
account for all the greenhouse
gases emitted during the production and installation of solar cells, as well as how much energy solar cells produce — and, therefore, how much less carbon is emitted when switching from fossil
fuels.
Estimated reduction in greenhouse
gases did not take into
account the continuing need to run fossil -
fuel backup 34.
Factors taken into
account are: low thermal efficiency at low power; cycling of back up generators; energy needed to build and to install wind turbines; energy needed for cabling and net adaptation; increase of
fuel consumption through partial replacement of efficient generators by low - efficiency, fast reacting Open Cycle
Gas Turbines.
In 2008, more than 85 per cent of global primary energy supply came from fossil
fuels, with coal and
gas accounting for over 50 per cent.
A new paper published in Climatic Change estimates that when we
account for the pollution costs associated with our energy sources, gasoline costs an extra $ 3.80 per gallon, diesel an additional $ 4.80 per gallon, coal a further 24 cents per kilowatt - hour, and natural
gas another 11 cents per kilowatt - hour that we don't see in our
fuel or energy bills.
