with eight times the mass.

giant molecular clouds — large concentrations of dense
gas and dust that give birth to stars — line up
with the spiral arms, suggesting the magnetic fields helped create the huge clouds and that they regulate how the clouds fragment to form new stars.

gas - swaddled super-Earths — ones possibly shrouded
with inhospitable atmospheres — were banished from an otherwise inhabitable neighborhood.
A new analysis of data from NASA's Kepler spacecraft finds that stars
with lower abundances of heavy elements — the kind that populated the early Milky Way — are more likely to host
gas giants several thousand kilometers larger in diameter than Jupiter.
