This condition may predispose to ECL cell proliferation and
gastric carcinoid tumors.
Gastric carcinoid tumors develop in 3 - 5 % of patients.
The chronic atrophic gastritis in pernicious anemia is also associated with an increased risk of intestinal gastric cancer and
gastric carcinoid tumors.
