The excellent navigation system shows detailed maps with extensive traffic coverage,
giving route guidance a better chance of keeping the i8 out of traffic jams.
We started driving and the onboard OnStar system
gave us route guidance by voice and through the radio display.

When under
route guidance, the system
gives turn - by - turn directions, but it doesn't feature text - to - voice technology for calling out the names of individual roads.
Although not as detailed as maps I've seen from Audi and BMW vehicles, the ones in the Camry Hybrid
gave me reliable
route guidance, complete with automatic rerouting around traffic problems.
The sat nav is slow to get going if it's been some time since you started the car, but the Google - based mapping means
guidance is accurate and quick, even if the system
gives too many voice commands as you drive along your
route.
The car not only showed
route guidance graphics on the main LCD, with lane
guidance, but also
gave turn - by - turn directions on the instrument cluster and head - up display, while voice prompts included street names.
The navigation system
gave good
route guidance, and the inclusion of traffic data is a necessity in a premium vehicle.
The maps look good and its
route guidance gives street names and easily understood graphics for freeway maneuvers, but it renders too slowly, visibly rebuilding the maps when the car starts up and while it's in motion.
Other than those issues, I found
route guidance worked very well, using traffic data to
route around jams and
giving voice prompts in plenty of time for the driver to recognize a turn.
Under
route guidance, the S550 did an excellent job of
giving me turn directions.
