I've heard some Christians claim that their decision to forego an abortion that's for a woman's health, or kicking their
gay kid out of the house were the product
of prayer, that these were «hard answers», but still ones that required obedience because they came from God.
At least they had the courage and wherewithall to come
out with their awesome chicken sandwich before some ungodly,
gay rights supporting, evil prize in their
kids meal, cussing at the drive thru window restaraunt came
out with theirs.When did Jesus, the God
of all gods become an alternative?
How many
of the people I have counseled over the years who were planning to throw
out their
kid because the
kid was (
gay, pregnant, having sex, using drugs, «turning their back on God», etc.) do you think have told me that keeping their child under their roof was a mistake?
In point
of fact, the
kid was picked on for being
gay — and later turned
out to be
gay.
Do you know how many teens are kicked
out of their homes onto the streets by their parents when they find
out the
kid is
gay?
And although parents and teachers pretend to look the other way, I contend that it's somewhat easy to pick the
gay kid out of a crowd.

GREENWICH VILLAGE — A law signed by Gov. David Paterson Wednesday offers new anti-bullying protections to students, specifically calling
out protections for
kids who are lesbian,
gay, bisexual or transgender, as well as students taunted because
of their weight.

gay online friend as this or that
kid from school, a Halloween party with Simon and BFF Leah (Langford) dressed as John and Yoko, and we figure
out this Georgia high school has parents hip enough to not mind swearing in front
of the
kids and not strict enough to care when those
kids come home from that party drunk.

Citing national studies, Stevens points to several negative effects
of suspensions on students apart from missing class time that include an increased risk
of dropping
out and getting arrested — and that the
kids who are most vulnerable, including students
of color, special education students, and
gay and lesbian students, get singled
out the most often.
I thought
of that earlier this year when I reviewed a biography by Amy Houts
of TV personality Rachel Maddow (Rachel Maddow: Primetime Political Commentator), whose life as an
out lesbian — I noted in the review — has been distinguished by a number
of «firsts»: she was one
of only two openly
gay students in her freshman class at Stanford; the first openly
gay recipient
of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship; and the first openly
gay person to host a prime - time news show on TV — a terrific role model, in short, for LGBTQ
kids, who, historically, have had too few such in books to read.
