Combat isn't the most challenging so it never
feels like you actually need to
upgrade your limited weapon selection, which is a shame given that going back to explore locations is based around getting Salvage and parts, but once again it lends a nice sensation of progression to the game, and the visual changes that come from building better versions of your
gear and
upgrading are nice to behold.
It was this risk / reward material grinding mechanic that has kept me coming back and, in my opinion, staves of the repetitive nature of the mission structure as there is such a vast array of
gear to acquire and then
upgrade that I always
felt hungry for more.
Due to the slow pace at which you earn
upgrade points, I
felt the game was often working against my need to equip better
gear that might help even the odds during those frustrating battles.

felt it encouraged me to return to surface, sell my riches and
upgrade my
gear.
To get to a point where you can
feel safe to walk the streets without fear, you
upgrade your skills, level and
gear like Unity with experience points from doing the main story, side missions or finding secrets.
Some players might
feel cheated that this cool new remix is a standalone retail package, especially considering how many maps were sold for
Gears 3 instead of meaningful gameplay improvements (although the fortification
upgrade and RAAM campaign were welcome exceptions).
So if you've already coughed up $ 70 for the
upgrade, you can can
feel slightly less guilty about all the money you've already spent on video game
gear this week.
Around level 20, I
felt the
gear system starting to improve, as
upgrades became more frequent.
If you ever
feel like
upgrading your drone, you can easily swap out any of the parts for newer, better
gear.
