Gems and Garden
of Virtues.

of those overlooked
gems was Greg Rucka «s British spy
book «Queen & Country,» which he
published with a variety
of illustrators for Oni Press.

The «establishment» theoretically denies my work bookstore access but put yourself in their shoes: would you order from the millions
of 50 % discounted
books in the Ingram catalog or would you search through the huge pile
of mediocre self -
published books to find the
gems?
There are certainly a lot
of gems people have missed either because they were too young when the series was being
published, the
books went out -
of - print too fast, or were never released in English at all.
I like being able to glance at a publisher's name on the spine
of a
book and know that this is a quality product, you can't do that with self
published titles, instead I spend hours on Goodreads trolling through reviews to find a few self
published gems among the disappointments.
Five - plus years into the self -
publishing boom, many readers express wariness about self -
published books; overlooked
gems do have a chance to find an audience in the self - pub realm, but an awful lot
of unedited dreck has poured forth, too.

Many
of my fav authors are traditionally
published — but the trad publishers have priced the
books out
of my purse so now I look for those indie
gems to satisfy my reading habits.
We also make sure to mix in lots
of terrible
books so that readers fully appreciate the 10 %
of published books that are
gems.
And those who fear that these titles will crowd out other
books are ignoring the vast quantities
of books published traditionally — or the fact that billions
of self -
published blogs and websites don't impede our ability to browse the internet, to find what we are looking for, or to share discovered
gems with others.
As more hardworking and serious writers skip to self -
publishing, the quality
of books available to readers will continue to increase, while the number
of gems in the traditional
publishing slush pile will go down.
And you'll also notice images

Still, this is a
gem of a
book which I highly recommend to any Author who is looking to make a career out
of writing through either self -
publishing or traditional
publishing.

published gems to negotiate the thousands
of self -
published books out there?

gem of a
book from Tuttle
Publishing called Miniature Terrariums.
