Despite the Amazon reader's bland design and the fact that this first -
generation device leaves some room for improvement, the Kindle and its corresponding service have succeeded in rekindling my interest in reading e-books.

Just a note — the Samsung
devices aren't sold in the UK; there is only the previous
generation of the Nook (Autumn 2013) and these aren't even covered by B&N (you are
left with the retailer who sold it) and there is virtually no accessories.

According to the Seybold Bulletin, «A poll of about 1,000 attendees (at the recent Tools of Change for Publishing conference) indicated that around 400 were current Kindle owners, but that only 15 of those were actually considering buying the new
device,
leaving open the question of how many new buyers the second
generation device will have.
Re-partitioning the
device on the fly could be potentially catastrophic (and likely would be in many scenarios), so Google's decision to
leave it alone on current
generation phones is respectable, albeit a bummer.
Both
devices will ship with Intel's fourth
generation Haswell processors; however, they're not slated to ship until January, 2016,
leaving the hardware two
generations behind.
And while Google rectified the problem a year later with the second
generation of Android One
devices, by that time the likes of Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Lenovo were mimicking the positive aspects of Google's enterprise while simultaneously undercutting them on the hardware,
leaving Android One to flounder.
That
leaves out much of the original
generation of 2014 Android Wear
devices, namely the Moto 360, LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live and Asus ZenWatch.
