Seriously, Sony has made some pretty stupid mistakes in the past, but I just don't see how anyone can even defend Microsoft's decision to go BACKWARDS
at the same time as going forwards into the next
generation of gaming.
I consider the last
generation as the worst
generation for video
gaming on consoles because
of how incredibly lazy and greedy certain companies were
at making games.
Sony needs to realize that this
generation of consoles and the people who are buying into the ps3 that online
gaming and it's psn / Home service matter a hell
of a lot more than last gen and
at this stage the Playstation is behind it's competitor on the online front I am a happy ps3 owner but can see why some refuse to buy into it just yet, however i think millions
of potential ps3 owners are just biding there time and will come flocking to the system once a price
of around # 299 is reached.
whom has done nothing with their
gaming budget other than throwing it around as handouts in order to share PS3 games... and all the while closing numerous in house studios... a lot
of MGS games are even based off
of UE3... instead
of MS building a proprietary middleware product line shared throughout their internal studios... they license 3rd party middleware instead... an easy way to make a decent looking game quickly... but never a way to push ANY envelopes,
at least not after the engine is already 3 years old... but Sony does this each
generation... the 1st party stuff initially shows off what the system can do earlier on than any 3rd party software (well mostly, MGS2 was one
of the first to push the PS2, MGS4 ditto for the PS3)... and 3rd pary stuff gets up to speed afterwards... you WILL see some incredible 3rd party content eventually, but for now... SCE is the only company pumping millions into the tech side
of game development... MS isn't... and Nintendo doesn't even know what any
of that is...

I've been
gaming since the days
of the NES and have owned
at least one system from each
generation since then.
We learned one important thing
at this year's E3: the death
of last -
generation console -
gaming has arrived.
If you look
at the LAST console
generation — PS2 and XBOX in particular — you see a continuation
of previous trends
of console
gaming: one or two players for most games (occasionally up to four) sitting together playing the same basic games but
at better resolutions with cooler sounds and graphics.
If it's anything more than that, I will not buy the machine
at launch and might even sit out the
generation in favor
of PC
gaming.
Whether you like it or not, the next -
generation of gaming just got away more social,
at least on the PlayStation 4.

Looking back
at the last couple
generations of gaming, there's an obvious domino effect.
This most recent wave
of «retro - inspired» games makes me feel much better about the legacy
of the
gaming industry; as it seems that games won't shift ENTIRELY to mobile or MMO status,
at least not for another few
generations anyway depending upon public opinion.
Harvest Moon, Baldur's Gate, Metroid, Mega Man, Castlevania, all
of these games defined aspects
of the
gaming Industry for so many years and now they are impacting an entirely new
generation of games; only this time the Triple A developers are no longer
at the wheel.
