generation gaming scene, but based on what we know today, this PC is a winner.
The truth is, Halo FANS know Halo and whilst it may not be as relevant as it was back in the day thanks to the likes
of Call
of Duty, it
still represents one
of the best exclusive FPS» out there that remains largely untouched, after two
gaming generations.
Consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
still hold on to their premium price points at this late point in their lifecycle and therefore there is little incentive to purchase a 7th
generation console at this point whereas 8th
generation handhelds such as the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita are seeing the majority
of their audience move to mobile
gaming.
Indeed, it's a testament to the longevity
of that
generation, both
gaming consoles, and the many successful games it produced that we're
still stuck calling the 8th
generation «next - gen» — because the 7th
generation hasn't entirely let go.

gaming services have become standard on current
generation consoles and traditional disc - based distribution methods are somewhat inefficient in this day and age, there are
still a few remnants left over from the old days
of the demo disc.
As someone who
still sees the original Far Cry as the spearhead
of a fabled next
generation of gaming, the chatter surrounding each new Metal Gear installment has always been something strange to me.
The Unreal Engine
still needs to show more
of its practical usefulness before we can call it a god - send, but everything shown so far has definitely cemented the fact that the next
generation of gaming engines is finally here.
So although Skylake may not offer any tangible benefit over Haswell for
gaming, it's clear that DDR4 can
still achieve a marginal number
of improvements over DDR3 for anyone who runs more RAM - intensive applications like WinRar or Photoshop on either
generation of CPU.
The discrete Radeon GPU is an entry point for specialized tasks and some light to medium
gaming, 16 GB
of dual - channel DDR4 RAM keeps things from getting bogged down, and the seventh -
generation U-series CPU, while not quad - core,
still does a good job
of keeping up.
As we found in our recent test
of three HD graphics
generations, Intel's integrated solution
still isn't adequate for general
gaming, even if it has come a long way.
