far as doing it, I've been publishing
books since the 1980s, worked in traditional publishing, owned my own publishing business, and every year help hundreds of authors
get their
books to market.
Even bigger than that, if you think that you can
get speaking opportunities or
further your career — if you can monetize your
book in ways completely outside your readership itself — then the «Return» part of your «Return On Investment» (ROI)
gets much bigger, thus giving you a bigger cushion
to play around with
marketing strategies.
The best
marketing strategy by
far is
to write a good
book,
get it professionally edited and proofed, make sure the cover is professional and engaging and that the back cover copy is enticing.
Likewise 5 star reviews on amazon seem
to be
far more common for self pubbed titles than their traditionally published equivalents, because making sure you
get them there, and fast, is one of the basic tenets of
marketing a self - pubbed
book.
As for the others, it's hard
to see too
far into the crystal ball, but don't be surprised when
book marketing gets turned on its head.

While there is a healthy segment of readers who just want audiobooks, I bet there's a
far bigger
market of people who normally read their
books in ink — in either the printed or digital variety — but would like the option of switching

far less reliance on an upfront advance buy - in, but
