child in a mold of what the parent thinks he should do and be, or what other people think he should do and be, rather than what his natural gifts and tendencies indicate;
to take time
to train the
child in basic skills —
to bake a cake, pound a nail, sketch or write or play a melody — including those things the parents know and do well and are interested in.
Even individuals, when they do such planning as budgeting for their financial needs, work in order
to place meals
on their tables, decide where
to send
children to school or do shopping in order
to get the value for their money et cetera, they are involved in politics.
This
child will be the one who has
to grow up with the name, deal with being picked
on in
school over the name, for the name showing up
on resumes, and being judged by that resume before even
getting an interview, etc.... A parent should have the right
to name their
child, but
to a limit.
Getting children involved in the making of food is an enjoyable way
to bond after a busy day or week of
school, not
to mention a pleasurable way
to get hands
on and have fun and just relax in the kitchen.
when i lived with my grandparents
school let out before they
got off work i went
to an after
school center where i received tutoring for my homework or i played with other kids in similar situations
on occasion this place would take us
on field trips one such field trip was
to the local roller skating rink i was not a klutzy
child, not more than the usual actually, i was quite coordinated at sports but put round wheels
on my shoes and it was a mess i fell
on my ass more times than i was standing and no lie the next day i could not poop
About the only way
to escape it is
to get out of the valley by going up
to the mountains and go skiing, which our family doesn't do, or go
on a trip, which is hard
to do with snowy roads and
children in
school, so mostly I stay home and make comfort foods
to drown my inversion woes.
Maybe
children won't benefit any less if they stay in their local communities, but when they
get to the high
school level and know what sport they want
to concentrate
on, then they should travel
to national tournaments in hopes of being seen by college scouts.

schools — not just nutrition education, but offering kids a real understanding of our food system, and overtly inoculating them against the allure of hyper - processed and fast food; teaching all
children basic cooking skills;
getting more gardens into
schools; encouraging restaurants
to ditch the standard breaded - and - fried
children's menu; imposing taxes
on soda (and even junk food); improving food access; and so much more.
If your
child has started
school, you should try and
get to know the subjects he is taking as well as check his homework
on a daily basis.
When your
child deals with her teachers in
school or
gets her first job and has these skills
to fall back
on, it will really go a long way.
If your
child is
getting below - average grades in
school, yells when you ask him
to do homework, seldom comes home
on time and has lied about where he was, or has even become verbally abusive or intimidating when you tried
to give him a consequence, he is going
to need more limits and checking - up
on to ensure his safety.
