I am having the same problem but my issue is that I keep
getting kicked out of churches.
I got kicked out of a church for not jumping through their hoops.
What's wrong when people can
get kicked out of churches for getting pregnant or being gay, but not for being unloving or prejudiced?
They told their story of how their gayness
got them kicked out of a church, squeezed from their jobs, and mercilessly persecuted in their hometown so that they couldn't even get furnace oil delivered to their home.
Even if, as a pastor, you will probably
get kicked out of your church and have your livelihood taken away.
People don't
get kicked out of their churches for struggling with pride or for not wearing head coverings when they pray.
That's a far cry from
getting kicked out of the church.

My first encounter with the «backlash» you mentioned took place in the mid-90's when John Piper launched a public crusade to
get me fired from Bethel University and to have my
church kicked out of the Baptist General Conference on the grounds that I was a «heretic.»
Then, when we actually moved to the South, we experienced the cognitive dissonance
of being assumed to be part
of the irresistible evangelical mainstream while practicing a form
of Baptist life that eventually
got our
church kicked out of the denomination.
That thought would

So far, my Clarks pumps have gone to
church twice &
out to dinner, and both times I was able to return home, walk comfortably up my driveway & into my room without any urge to
kick them off my feet & into a big fire like some other shoes I have tried... and, my Clarks shopping trip scored me $ 40 to spend on my next visit - they have those punch card things where a filled card gives you $ $ to spend, and between the pumps, the sandals & that beautiful orchid handbag I filled a card, so I may go back and use the credit towards the nude version
of the pumps... and if I
get really ambitious, I'll post a picture
of myself with the pumps & the bag very soon.
