get unlimited access to Scribd's library of several hundred thousand
ebooks.
With Kobo launching their audiobook
subscription plan last week, where customers can
get one audiobook per month for $ 9.99, it has me thinking about how
ebooks and audiobooks are treated differently.
Several companies have started offering
ebook subscription services, such as Oyster, Scribd and Entitle, over the past year; it was only a matter of time before Amazon
got onboard with the idea as well — now if only they can convince some big - name publishers too (that's probably what's delaying the announcement).
The way Kindle Unlimited works is you
get unlimited access to all the
ebooks and audiobooks available through KU for as long as you pay the $ 9.99 per month
subscription fee, kind of like Netflix for
ebooks.
Amazon's new Kindle Unlimited
ebook subscription service is now live in the United States, with more countries
getting access to the service soon.
It looks like Amazon is going to
get into the
ebook subscription service business in the near future, and it's likely to include audiobooks as well.
If you are hesitating about

If a fiction model were devised for libraries, it would most likely follow the cartel bundling model: pay X amount of $ a year,

get audiobooks for cheap if they own the

On the subject of a
subscription service at iBooks, I don't have any knowledge of such a thing but they have
gotten into
subscriptions in a big way with music, so a move into
ebook subscriptions wouldn't be such a stretch.
We're focusing this time on comings and goings — as in two new services that might be of use to our author - subscribers: Palatium is intent on
getting indies» books into
ebook subscription services in various parts of the world, while Books - A-Million has jumped into the self - publishing arena (which already was a bit crowded).
But this will only work if a library has a system set up in place to accept these types of donations, and if the
